Stages 1, 2, 3: San Francisco Bay Area

Travel

Stages 1 and 2 are in the city of San Francisco, and are easily accessible via public transport from San Francisco Airport, Oakland Airport and city hotels.

Stage 3 is 50 miles from San Francisco towards Lake Tahoe. Cars and car-pools (shared rides) are recommended.

After the Stage 3 Long course there is a rest day. Competitors could return to San Francisco, stay somewhere in between - e.g. Gold Country - or travel directly up to North Lake Tahoe / Northstar.

Lodging

San Francisco, Oakland and the entire Bay Area have a large and varied amount of hotel/motel lodging. Tourist and downtown areas of the city are more expensive and should be booked well in advance. All are available using Booking.com, Expedia.com, TripAdvisor and many other online booking options.

For less expensive options try the Lombard Street area, North Beach, and the Marina District. Both Stages 1 and 2 are easily accessible from Lombard Street.

Hostels can also be an inexpensive option:

There are often resort amenities included such as swimming. To find these use vrbo.com or airbnb.com or google “tahoe rentals”.
